The Step Up Network for Women

I always feel extremely blessed when I am able to give back to my community, whether it's volunteering my time to a charity organization or becoming a mentor to someone who is interested in traveling on a similar path as mine. The Step Up Network for Women is a cause that I am very passionate about, as it is focused on empowering girls and women and helping them to be strong and successful citizens.

The Step Up Network consists of a wonderful group of women who have become mentors to teenage girls from underprivileged schools. Step Up provides a really cool photojournalism class to three Los Angeles-area schools, and teen girls are paired up with a mentor who is a professional in an industry that each girl would like to pursue as a career. For example, if one of the young girls has a dream of becoming a writer a fashion magazine such as Vogue or Elle, she is paired with a fashion publicist or journalist. It's a great way for these amazing youngsters to realize their true potential!

On December 12, the annual mentor/mentee event was held and I was able to spend the whole day with my mentee, helping to inform her about her dream job as a fashion designer and how she can make this dream a reality! Through this wonderful program, dreams are mapped out, interviews take place, and the girls create a blog about their mentor. It's truly inspirational. We also created a "Dream Board," which is a poster of dreams and include pictures from magazines, inspirational quotes, motivational sayings... a fun and creative way for them to put their dream out there.

This is an incredible way that I am lucky enough to be able to give back to the community, as well as to the young ladies that dream big and know that the sky's the limit. I just know that this is the next generation of powerful, professional women, who will grow up to give back to their community and continue to support the Step Up Network! The thought that I can even positively influence one girl's life just makes it all worth it.

Check out a selection of photos from the December 12 event below!
