Single for Barbie!

Hi dears,

Tonight is a very exciting one for me, as I am participating in the Divine Design / Project Angel Food Gala Awards Night that is being held in Beverly Hills. Barbie is being honored as the Style Icon, which is just fabulous. Elle's Creative Director Joe Zee is holding court as the Fashion Chair, and Margaret Russell and Michael Smith are serving as the Home Chair. The press and audience turn out is supposed to be amazing, so I am really excited to see who turns up.

 

Every day, I remember to think about how lucky I am to be able to do what I love for a living. Spending my days designing and thinking of ways to make women feel beautiful is just such a gift! On that note, I was honored to be one of the 130 designers (everyone from Marc Jacobs, Ralph Lauren, Burberry and Calvin Klein to Proenza Schouler, Sonia Rykiel, Vera Wang, and J Mendel) who are designing a Barbie-inspired look for this evening. I am looking forward to the glamorous runway show, as well as Barbie's pop up shop of collectibles at the Divine Design marketplace.

 

Check out some of the photos of my design sketches of the dress, as well as a fabric swatch I used for inspiration, and of course the finished product. I wanted to play upon the playful femininity that Barbie represents to me - a beautiful, self-assured, and fun girl. Of course I had to use pink! :) What can I say - Barbie is a true Single girl!
