One style that is always classic and universally flattering is the menswear trend. I love it!
Playing with your style identity is always fun, and my take on the menswear trend is to counter-balance the strong masculinity with a touch of femininity to soften things up.
We incorporate this trend quite a bit in the Single line, and have done it really well without it looking too masculine - it's just the right balance :)
From dresses with silk tops and pearl necklaces paired with menswear striped skirts, we also played with patterns and prints that are directly inspired by menswear. We made a print from one of my father's vintage ties... it's rich in color and luxurious in feel, yet it looks quite trendy.
At Single, we also love the feeling of incorporating menswear stretch trouser fabrics into fabulous fitted dresses, including plaids and black stretch gabardines. Victoria Beckham was even seen wearing one of these dresses!
It's almost as if showing this masculine, serious fabric in a feminine silhouette will display a woman's strength and power - without sacrificing her playful soft side :)
This trend rings very true to me, as my college days as an aspiring design student in the 80's were spent drawing inspiration from strong blazers, jackets and menswear-inspired dresses that I'd find at a variety of flea markets and thrift stores. Love it!
I've included a few pictures where I'm displaying my take on the trend... most recently at the Chanel event where I chose a crisp white Single dress shirt with trousers, and wore girly pearls to soften up the look.
Enjoy your holiday weekend!
