My FashionLA Interview!

Hi dears -

Happy Friday!! I wanted to share with you a really fun interview I did for FashionLA as one of their tastemakers - this one was really enjoyable for me and I hope you like it! It's a fun way to learn a little bit more about me, my tastes, and the Single brand as a whole.

Xo, G

1. What is your name and the name of your company? Galina Sobolev, and my company's name is Single - www.singledress.com

2. What is your role in the fashion industry? As a prominent fashion designer for one of LA's contemporary brands, Single, I feel that my contribution to fashion is enormous. We provide beautiful dresses and lovely tops, we dress celebs for red carpet events, and we work with Los Angeles TV studios and wardrobe stylists. We create the look and feel of "effortless elegance" that can only be acquired from years of living in Los Angeles.

3. What is your shoe philosophy? My shoe philosophy is simple. High heels, fabulous colors. A great shoe always completed an outfit. I love my shoes in bright colors!

4. What are your three favorite boutiques in LA and why? My three favorite boutiques in LA are Selian Boutique on Melrose for great vintage dresses and accessories. Hermes - I love when I walk into the store and just the smell of leather intoxicates me. And Maxfield for that cool piece you must have but can't find anywhere. My favorite sales girl Inna at Maxfield is always amazing. Of course, I love Neiman Marcus for its ambiance - I always feel glamorous the minute I walk through the doors!

5. Who are your favorite local LA designers? From the local talent, I really love what the Mulleavy sisters are doing at Rodarte. The clothing is so detailed and amazingly light to the touch. I also really love handmade cashmeres from Koi, as well as J Brand jeans.

6. Who are LA's most stylish men and women? To me, LA's most stylish men and women are people in the art world. I love the style of Vanessa, the party planner at MOCA. She has a vintage collection that rivals FIT's. I love the way the late Tina Chow used to dress, she was the wife of Michael Chow - owner of the famous Mr. Chow restaurant in Beverly Hills. Tina has been my style inspiration since the late 80's. Most LA men are very stylish, it is true effortless LA cool. My husband is the coolest Angeleno - he has a great eclectic taste.

7. What accessories can you not live without? I am an accessories junkie - if there was one thing  that I couldn't walk out of my house with it is accessories. I love my vintage Hermes cuffs, I love chains, and I love to mix old items with new. I just bought some great charm bracelets on the beach in St. Tropez, and I wear them with a diamond ring. I also love watches and have an extensive collection.

8. How would you describe your style? My style is an eclectic LA style - I love sexy, lean looks and boho Single dresses. I wear mostly my brand, it's my go-to staple in my wardrobe, and accessorize it with great shoes and bags.

9. What denim line does it for you?  Lately the only denim I wear is J Brand, if I wear them at all. Mostly, I live in Single dresses and tunics. My old Thomas Wilde jeans are my favorite.

10. What does fashion in Los Angeles mean to you and how do you define the LA look? Fashion in LA is defined more in our lifestyle. We live in cars and we go to restaurants and events a lot. So fashion here is very different from New York, but I love LA's effortless chic style. I love to throw on a beaded tunic, with a pair of black shorts and rocker Balmain shoes, and just go to lunch with my girlfriends on Sunset Plaze. Lifestyle in LA directs our looks and our style rather than the editors. We become our own stylists, and right here in LA is where all great fashion trends are conceived.
