Galina Sobolev is the mastermind behind Single, a luxury brand that creates elegant and classic dresses for the independent woman. Besides very friendly, Galina has a good taste to select the best prints, Italian and French fabrics, always demanding impeccable quality in her work for the highest level clients. A Single is a brand that was made for all stages of life. Segmented into four different lines, it pleases the teen audience, luxury executive, celebrities who seek to be elegant and refined ladies. Galina was inspired by a very strong feeling to create Single, every woman is an individual who seeks romance, luxury and elegance. We can say that Single woman is independent and is always fabulous. I believe you are curious to know a little bit more about the creative universe of Galina and her thoughts about the fashion world. With you, Galina Sobolev.

1 - WHERE DOES YOUR INSPIRATION COMES FROM?

GALINA SOBOLEV: My Inspiration for design comes from many different places. If I am designing a Resort/Spring collection-I like to reference trips to Capri, The Amalfi Coast, and often St.Tropez .  If I am designing our fall collection-I revisit Urban cities like New York, London, and most recently I am really inspired by Shanghai. Since I live and work in Los Angeles and the weather is always warm the Effortless Glamour is my design motto.  I love watching women in motion, whether at Museums, or just walking down Rodeo Dr. Women in motion, and in movement inspire me…

 

2 - HOW DOES YOUR CREATIVE PROCESS BEGIN?

GALINA SOBOLEV: Usually my creative process begins with the fabric, it is always the fabric that directs the style, however many times it is the Trend directions-so right now we are working with the late 80's trends of Studio 54 sexy Glamour Days, and the Beginning

of Azzedine Allia --so I will go to Fabric shows and start to research the Fabrications that are Luxurious, Glamorous, and Exquisite looking.

3 - IN YOUR POINT OF VIEW, HOW DO YOU SEE YOUR BRAND WITHIN THE EUA FASHION MARKET?

GALINA SOBOLEV:  Our Brand has reached a Very High Status of Recognition in Europe especially in Belgium, Holland, and France.  Our Sales teams have built the Brand and the image of "Single" dress where it hangs in prestigious shops next to Etro and Cavalli class.  We manufacture in USA in Los Angeles, and many European Stores really value the made in USA Brands.

 

4 - WHAT'S THE FUTURE OF FASHION IN A FEW YEARS?

GALINA SOBOLEV:  I can see and hope that Fashion goes back to the days when women put a little bit of Effort into Dressing up, whether for work, or for dinner dates, or for meetings. The last few years have been quite Casual, and I hope that the trend to get a little more dressed up will continue.  Women look great in dresses, I hope to sell many more this year.

5 - IF YOU COULD DESCRIBE YOUR BRAND IN A FEW WORDS, WHAT WOULD?

GALINA SOBOLEV:  Confidence is the Hallmark of the modern woman, Single Brand evokes, and supports the woman who feels great in her own skin.

 

6 – IF YOU COULD COMPARE SINGLE FROM THE REST OF THE BRANDS THAT REACHES TE SAME TARGET THAT YOU DO, WHICH WOULD BE YOUR DIFERENTIAL?

GALINA SOBOLEV:  We at "Single" stand for something a little different: A) 95% of our production is done right here in USA, I am proud to say that it is an honor and a privilege to be able to produce a Great quality product, and support our LA Economy. B) All our Structured dresses are fully lined in Stretch Sateen lining-we call it the "Single Secret Weapon"--and it is something our customers Love. C) The collection is designed by a woman for women-so I always try to cover Flaws.

7 - WICH BRANDS DO YOU LIKE MOST, THAT INSPIRES YOU?

GALINA SOBOLEV:  My favorite is Tom Ford-I love his collection, and I love his aesthetic, he always inspires me.  I am also inspired by Valentino the new Design team is absolutely Fabulous, and I really Love all the Lace feminine detailing on their collection.

 

8 – WHAT DO YOU THINK ABOUT THE POLEMIC CHINA MARKET?

GALINA SOBOLEV:  I traveled to China for many years, and I would Love to penetrate that Market.  Perhaps with our "Victoria" dress.

 

9 – IN YOUR OPINION, WHAT’S THE MOST IMPORTANT THING THAT A PRODUCT MUST HAVE WHEN IT GET’s TO THE FINAL CONSUMER?

GALINA SOBOLEV:  Quality, Fit, comfort, Glamour!  I love when we get letters from customers and they receive many compliments from wearing our dresses that excites, and inspires me.

 

10 – TELL US MORE ABOUT YOUR FUTURE PROJECTS, WHAT HAVE YOU BEEN DOING, WHAT’S NEW…

GALINA SOBOLEV:  I am working on Developing a "Skinny" Single dress--a dress that makes every woman who puts it on look skinny!  Stay tuned, that is my dream to create one dress that will be like an IPod everyone will have to have it!
