In Her Shoes

Hi darlings,

I hope you've all been wonderful - it's been quite busy here at Single! I am so excited to share my recap of the "In Her Shoes" project with you today... this was so memorable and I loved being a part of this!!

In Her Shoes is based around the notion of supporting an amazing charity, AVIVA, that helps young girls from disadvantaged backgrounds. All sorts of women stepped up to offer our shoes to photograph - so many talented people were involved! This took place at Fred Segal Fun, and I love how every shot included a story of the women behind the shoes and her purpose in life. I chose my Alexander McQueen studded rhinestone shoes, as I was compelled to honor this talented artist since his passing. A few of my lovely friends also participated, including Barbara Lazaroff and Christine Chiu.

In Her Shoes is the brainchild of the amazing photographer Amy Friedman, who says:

"I wanted to do something good for women, so I came up with this project that encompasses all my loves... Photography, Fashion and doing something good for my community. A Day In My Shoes opened last year in SF Westfield Shopping Center. This was the perfect place for me to start working on this project. I raised thousands of dollars for The Asian Women's Shelter in SF. (SF is where I reside so it was a natural beginning with the Shoes!). I decided that I would start working in LA on my next shoes project. I chose AVIVA - I started thinking about these women's lives - I knew whatever I could give would help them- so these amazing women from LA that posed for these photos-they helped me help AVIVA! I named it Part Deux and they debuted October 16th at Rebecca Molayem Gallery in West Hollywood. I also wanted to try to be creative with the shoot! I teamed up with ZeroMinusPlus-Fred Segal, and photographed most of the women separately in the same window to capture their personalities and create magic with each frame. I loved this challenge and the works turned out lovely and interesting!"

For a little more about AVIVA, their Wallis Annenberg Center is often a woman's last chance to heal and turn her life around. AVIVA is all that stands between a life that may include institutionalization, welfare and homelessness...and a hopeful future!

What an amazing project! Here is what I said about myself for this project:

"I am a bust mother of 3, and an owner of a thriving women's clothing company, I rarely have time for myself although I try to find a little time every day for a quiet moment to read, or a 10 min. for a solitary cup of coffee. My life is like one of Jacqueline-of-All-Trades! I find confidence as being the sexiest asset of a woman. I love to exude that Love the Skin you are in aspect of my personality. I love being a woman, and love the generations of strong women that instilled this feeling of confidence in me. I chose my shoes with a melancholy attachment to one of the greatest designers that ever lived - Alexander McQueen. He passed away this year, and I feel by wearing his shoes I wanted to pay homage to a great talent, and an amazingly creative soul.... I am forever inspired, and grateful for his influence in my design aesthetic."

I also love what Amy had to say about Single, read below:

"As for my Single dresses that I love so much, my black jersey kimono sleeve is one of my favorite garments to wear! It's so comfortable and the draping on it is delightful! I get a ton of compliments and I'm honored to wear Galina's dresses!"

-Amy Friedman

I've included my photograph from In Her Shoes below, as well as photos from the shoot and the gallery debut. Enjoy!!!!

PS - I wore Single's Strappy Rocker Dress to the shoot, which is currently on sale for $175. Click here to buy it!
