Episode 7 of "Launch My Line" brought back to me a lot of mixed emotions. I have grown so close to Eric, and am constantly doing all I can to nurture his creative gifts and advise him and help him grow stronger as a designer. I never want to let him down!
For this week's challenge, we had to create a look that could work in a variety of settings, and could be convertible depending on where the wearer is going. Each team spun the wheel of settings, one setting was where the outfit would be worn first, and the second was where the outfit's next stop would be. Our challenge was definitely the most difficult, as we had a religious ceremony and a high society cocktail party. Talk about your polar opposite settings! How much more different can you get?
I honestly cried again while watching this episode. All of my feelings came back like a tidal wave of emotions while viewing this one. All of the exhaustion, stress, and pressure of the time clock caught up with me, in addition to our less-than-stellar halfway point critique from the judges. At times, I didn't even realize, or care, that I was being filmed, and my emotions got the best of me. I am a deeply feeling individual, never one to bottle up my feelings on the inside. The clock was ticking, and our garment had to be majorly overhauled. I was worried, and it really boiled down to the fact that Eric stepped up to the plate and really helped with the cutting and sewing. Eric said that this was the hardest challenge we've had, and I definitely agree with him. He is so amazing and works great under pressure!
When all was said and done, our look was simply remarkable. We pulled it off, much to my relief. Wow was the key word of the evening, and our wow level was off the charts! After the runway show, I was so thrilled to be in the top two with Eric, he is just so deserving of this. To be honest, we were both so emotionally and physically spent at this point that it didn't fully hit me that we had made it to the finals until a few minutes later!
I honestly think that Bravo hasn't really captured to the fullest extend the insane amounts of work that the "experts" do, whether it be sewing or pattern making, etc. It takes a labor of love to make these garments, and I think it would be great for Bravo to do a "follow up" showing how much time we spent working on our sewing machines. This isn't an easy task - it takes precision, focus, hard work, and countless hours. At times, I felt that the entire Bravo studio was going to cave in on me, that's how tough the pressure was at times!
But with all of this behind us now, the thrill and excitement of the finale is upon us! Boy oh boy, the pressure cooker is just getting hotter. 'Til then my friends, I bid you farewell, and make sure to tune in on Wednesday night to Watch What Happens!
Xo,
Galina
